Republican members of Congress and what masquerades as a “conservative” media are outraged that the Obama administration intends to try in federal court Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of 9/11, and four alleged co-conspirators.

The Republican and right-wing rant that a trial is too good for these people proves what I have written for a number of years: Republicans and many Americans who think of themselves as conservatives have no regard for the US Constitution or for civil liberties.

Propaganda Masks The Real Reason For Release of Al Megrahi

For a month we have been bombarded with propaganda from the BBC about an alleged cover-up by the British government of a secret deal to release convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi. Claims have been made that “Libya oil deals” were a factor, and pompous statements made that “releasing a convicted terrorist to enhance trade deals cannot be justified“.

This media circus has been consistently ignoring an elephant in the middle of the room. Megrahi’s lawyers were in the final stages of launching an appeal against his conviction:

Had he continued with his appeal, families of the victims believe it would have gone some way to exposing what they claim is a cover-up.

They accuse the Scottish Government of striking a deal with the convicted bomber that he drop his appeal, which may have exposed a miscarriage of justice, in exchange for repatriation
