Homeland Security Given Green Light to Monitor American Journalists

January 14, 2012

source: Yahoo! News   Jan 14, 2011

Under the National Operations Center (NOC)’s Media Monitoring Initiative that emerged from the Department of Homeland Security in November, Washington has written permission to collectand retain personal information from journalists, news anchors, reporters or anyone who uses “traditional and/or social media in real time to keep their audience situationally aware and informed.”

According to DHS, the definition of personal identifiable information can consist of any intellect “that permits the identity of an individual to be directly or indirectly inferred, including any information which is linked or linkable to that individual.”

RT adds:

Previously established guidelines within the administration say that data could only be collected under authorization set forth by written code, but the new provisions in the NOC’s write-up means that any reporter, whether someone along the lines of Walter Cronkite or a budding blogger, can be victimized by the agency.

Also included in the roster of those subjected to the spying are government officials, domestic or not, who make public statements, private sector employees that do the same and “persons known to have been involved in major crimes of Homeland Security interest,” which to itself opens up the possibilities even wider.

The department says that they will only scour publically-made info available while retaining data, but it doesn’t help but raise suspicion as to why the government is going out of their way to spend time, money and resources on watching over those that helped bring news to the masses.

Lies, Lawsuits, and Legislation: A Brief History of the 9/11 First Responders Hellish Rollercoaster Ride

The Huffington Post had this, and more to say (though I don’t like to promote the Huff Post) :

A provision in the new 9/11 health bill may be adding insult to injury for people who fell sick after their service in the aftermath of the 2001 Al Qaeda attacks, The Huffington Post has learned.

The tens of thousands of cops, firefighters, construction workers and others who survived the worst terrorist assault in U.S. history and risked their lives in its wake will soon be informed that their names must be run through the FBI’s terrorism watch list, according to a letter obtained by HuffPost.

PATRIOT Act Renewal Passed Through Congress

February 11, 2011

In a busy schedule 2 days ago had started to write this..I could not finish it until today though. In the time that passed, a similar piece was written by Steve and Paul Watson. I recommend it if this piece interests you.

Please read this great article from Washington’ s Blog: Is the Government Exaggerating the Threat of Terror for Political Purposes?

Nor Cal Truth     Feb 11, 2010

The PATRIOT Act Renewal did not pass Congress on Tuesday.

In perfect timing, Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano said this on Wednesday:

“….. the threat today may be at its most heightened state since the attacks nearly 10 years ago.”

“We understand full well that Islamist-inspired, Al-Qaeda-inspired, however you want to call it, terrorism, be it coming from abroad or now being homegrown, is part and parcel of the security picture that we now have to deal with in the United States…”

She was not alone: The White House issued a statement before the Tues. vote saying the Administration would actually like a longer renewal:

“The administration would strongly prefer enactment of reauthorizing legislation that would extend these authorities until December 2013.”

“… the administration does not object to H.R. 514.”

She was also backed up by the U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who said terrorism is still the biggest threat we face just during a House hearing hours before the PATRIOT Act renewal was due to be back in the House.

“Viewpoints on Homeland Security: A Discussion with the 9/11 Commissioners.”

Click icon for a live/recorded video feed of the hearing

I have not had time yet, but if you want to listen to Lee Hamilton and Thomas Kean, the 9/11 Commission Chairmen, address a Homeland Security meeting then click on the above link.

I have read that they are criticizing the Administration over privacy issues, however I believe they echo with a lack of National Security:

During testimony, they pointed out that the Obama Administration has allowed a Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board recommended by the commission to become “dormant” since no one has been appointed to fill its five seats..

Like I said, I have not heard it yet, but there it is if you want to.

Flight 253: Anatomy of a Cover-Up

January 11, 2010

by Tom Brughardt   source: Global Research

New revelations about the failed Christmas Day attack on Northwest Airlines Flight 253 continue to emerge as does evidence of a systematic cover-up.

With the White House in crisis mode since the attempted bombing, President Obama met for two hours January 5 with top security and intelligence officials. Obama said that secret state agencies “had sufficient information to uncover the terror plot … but that intelligence officials had ‘failed to connect those dots’,” The New York Times reports.

The latest iteration of the “dot theory” floated by the President, aided and abetted by a compliant media, claims “this was not a failure to collect intelligence” but rather, “a failure to integrate and understand the intelligence that we already had.”

“Mr. Obama’s stark assessment that the government failed to properly analyze and integrate intelligence served as a sharp rebuke of the country’s intelligence agencies,” declared the Times uncritically.

While the President’s remarks may have offered a “sharp [rhetorical] rebuke,” Obama’s statement suggests that no one will be held accountable. Indeed, the President “was standing by his top national security advisers, including those whose agencies failed to communicate with one another.”

Homeland Security’s Michael Chertoff Gets Pounded With 9/11 Questions By C-SPAN Callers

AP Source: Obama nominee tied to CIA torture programs.

June 4, 2009

Arrest Obama, Bush Sr. and Jr. (and the rest of the 5 brothers), John Yoo, Rumsfield, Cheney, Ashcroft, Rice, Chertoff, Mueller, abolish the CIA, audit the not-so-Federal-Reserve…And arrest those truly responsible for the False-Flag attacks of september the 11th, 2001.
Maybe then, and only then we will see some change around here, untill then grab some popcorn, because the show will go on.

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration’s pick for a top intelligence post at the Homeland Security Department has ties to the CIA’s harsh interrogation program, a congressional aide said.

This could become an issue during Philip Mudd’s confirmation hearing, which is expected next week. Mudd was nominated to be under secretary of intelligence and analysis at Homeland Security.

The aide confirmed that Mudd, who was deputy director of the Office of Terrorism Analysis at the CIA during the Bush administration, had direct knowledge of the agency’s harsh interrogation program. The aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

A Republican senator wants more information about Obama’s top pick for the post. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said her staff is looking into the extent of Mudd’s involvement in these interrogation programs.
