U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein released a statement Friday urging hundreds of other defendants to consider participating in the settlement. They include workers involved in the extensive cleanup of buildings surrounding ground zero.

A U.S. district judge in New York approved a settlement Wednesday that could pay more than $700 million to thousands of 9/11 first responders exposed to toxic dust at ground zero.
Before approving the settlement Judge Alvin Hellerstein listened to testimony from a sampling of some of the 10,000 plaintiffs at Wednesday’s hearing about the health battles that have plagued them since working at the World Trade Center site.
“I intend to approve this settlement, and I now do so as a fair, adequate and reasonable settlement reflecting hard work and a concern for fairness by all parties,” said Hellerstein.

Lawyers for the city and about 10,000 rescue and cleanup workers who say their health was damaged at ground zero announced Thursday that they had negotiated a new, $712 million settlement to replace one that a federal judge rejected three months ago.
The new pact drew a vigorous endorsement from the judge, Alvin K. Hellerstein of United States District Court in Manhattan, who had said the previous one, amounting to $657 million, was too small.
Heeding another complaint from the judge, lawyers for the workers agreed to reduce their fees to one-quarter of the total payout rather than the one-third called for in the lawyers’ original agreement with their clients.
Judge Hellerstein, who has emerged as a passionate advocate for firefighters, police officers and other workers and volunteers who have suffered ailments they attribute to the toxic debris of the World Trade Center, had stunned and angered lawyers for both sides when he unilaterally rejected the first deal on March 19.

Another 9/11 responder’s death prompted her family to plead Monday for federal funding to treat rescuers sickened by their work at Ground Zero.
Paula Rodriguez, 44, an FDNY emergency medical technician, died Sunday at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Relatives contend Rodriguez’s fatal disease was linked to the many days she spent working in the toxic cloud over lower Manhattan in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks.
“If this government really cared, they would have done something years ago,” said Rodriguez’s niece Stacy Asencio-Sutphen.
Rodriguez, of Lindenhurst, L.I., the mother of two young boys, is among nearly 900 first responders to have died from an array of ailments traced to their service at the smoldering World Trade Center.

The 9/11 attacks have had myriad long-term consequences for Americans across the country. But the aftermath of the 2001 tragedy took a surprising toll on pregnant women — by causing them to miscarry a disproportionate number of male fetuses.
That’s the conclusion of researchers at the University of California, Irvine, who have been studying the impact of 9/11 on male babies since 2005.
In a smaller study published that year, they found that women in California miscarried more male babies in the year after 9/11 than they did in other years from 1995 to 2002.
This time, the team tracked all fetal miscarriages in the country, using data from the National Vital Statistics System collected between 1996 and 2002.

A CNN report from Belgium has footage of a building “collapsing” after it has been on fire. The resulting collapse is as of now being blamed on a massive explosion inside the building. Scenes from the street are very reminiscent of 9/11, with dust-covered cars and people. This will add more credence to the fact that on 9/11, fire alone did not bring down 3 buildings in Manhattan.

Below is some of what a representative in Senator Graham’s DC office told me on October 1st in response to my further inquiry into the Senator’s acknowledgment and response to the information we gave him and he willingly accepted to take a look at. http://www.911blogger.com/node/20578
At first contact, his office refused to say he had looked at the information. Now they have admitted he has reviewed the information but is still sticking with the 9/11 Commission Report, scientific evidence to the contrary be damned and his oath not withstanding.
