Afghanistan: Ten Years of War

October 9, 2011

source: Corbett Report     Oct 9, 2011

October 7th marks the ten year anniversary of the commencement of NATO operations in Afghanistan. Although the impending illegal invasion of Iraq in 2003 was enough to drive millions of people worldwide into the streets in protest, there has never been the same widespread resistance to the Afghan war.

This war has been deemed the “right war” and given a broad measure of support from across the political spectrum because it is still linked in the popular imagination with the events of 9/11. Even a cursory interrogation of these assumptions, however, reveals the absurd nature of this pretext for what has been all along an illegal invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation.

On the evening of 9/11, the North Atlantic Council issued a statement offering the assistance of all 18 NATO member states to the United States, calling the attacks “without precedent in the modern era.”

The next day the Council met again, making the extraordinary decision to invoke Article 5 of the Washington Treaty for the first time in NATO’s history. The carefully worded statement contained the important stipulation that Article 5 would only apply if it could be determined that the attacks were directed from abroad, something that NATO Secretary General Robertson noted had not been determined.

Racially Profiled, Detained and Strip Searched on 9/11

Ten years of fear mongering brings us here. It gets worse everyday…

source: 9/11 Truth News   Sep 15, 2011

Silly me. I thought flying on 9/11 would be easy. I figured most people would choose not to fly that day so lines would be short, planes would be lightly filled and though security might be ratcheted up, we’d all feel safer knowing we had come a long way since that dreadful Tuesday morning 10 years ago.

But then armed officers stormed my plane, threw me in handcuffs and locked me up.

My flight from Denver landed in Detroit on time. I sent a text message to my husband to let him know we had landed and I would be home by dinner. The plane stopped on the tarmac, seemingly waiting to have the gate cleared. We waited. I played on my phone, checking Facebook, scrolling through my Twitter feed. After a while of sitting there, I decided to call my husband to tell him the plane was being delayed and I would call him when I got off the plane.

10 Years from 9/11: Still Important Unanswered Questions

August 8, 2011

by Peter Drew   source: Scoop    Aug 8, 2011

As we approach the 10th anniversary of this world changing event, we are finding that rather than gradually fading into the history books, this event is having an increasing impact on the world we live in and raising more and more complex questions as to what really happened and why much crucial information and evidence has apparently been held back or ignored by both the US government and the media.

The events of 9/11 were shocking and horrific. In their attempts to pursue the supposed perpetrators of these attacks, the US government has invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, has launched significant military action in Pakistan, with huge loss of innocent lives in these three countries, and a global war on terror has been launched against Al Qaeda. But were Al Qaeda the only terrorists involved? Were there possibly other forces and influences also involved that need to be more fully investigated and pursued? Do we really have all the facts and the full story about what happened on that day, or is the 9/11 story a lot more complex than has so far been presented? The evidence that is now emerging would strongly suggest that this is the case and therefore we need to ascertain the full facts if we are to have any chance of achieving true justice for the victims and prevent similar or worse attacks in the future.

Let us start by looking at the official process of investigation into 9/11. In 2003 a panel of 10 investigators was established to conduct a formal investigation into what happened, and this investigation was used to create the 9/11 Commission Report as a document which provided the official version of events. However, a steadily increasing number of people within the United States and around the world have been seriously questioning this official version of events as being incomplete or inaccurate. A rapidly growing amount of compelling evidence is being presented which suggests that at the very least some significant new questions need to be asked and that significant further investigations need to be undertaken if we are to get a more complete picture and an understanding of the full extent of what really happened.

A major factor for consideration is the enormous amount of scientific evidence and eye witness accounts now emerging which suggests that the three towers that collapsed on September 11 came down mainly as a result of explosive demolition as opposed to the spontaneous pancake collapses caused by the intense fire from the planes, as was hypothesised in the 9/11 Commission Report. If explosives were in fact the main cause of the collapses then this raises another whole level of complexity and intrigue to the events of 9/11. It raises questions as to how the terrorists gained access to such highly secure buildings with large quantities of explosives. One of the leading figures in bringing forward scientific evidence regarding the use of explosives is Richard Gage, founder of‘Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth’ (AE911Truth). AE911Truth now includes no fewer than 1,500 professionally qualified architects and engineers from across the United States who all believe that the official explanation for the collapse of the three World Trade Centre towers requires a new investigation and a new explanation. The first and most important piece of the 9/11 puzzle, not known by most people, is that as well as the Twin Towers, a third skyscraper completely collapsed on that day. WTC Building 7 was a 47 storey high rise tower that was not even struck by a plane and yet it collapsed at around 5.20pm on September 11, falling at free fall speed for much of the collapse neatly into its own footprint.

Exactly How Big Is This So-Called Al Qaeda?

August 7, 2011

source: Boiling Frogs Post    Aug 8, 2011

For almost 10 years we have been engaged in a massive and many-fronted war advertised as a war on terror-war on Al Qaeda. Recent reports put the total cost to America of this war on terror at around $3 trillion. This is not counting un-countable covert operations with secret budgets, and it does not include the war in Libya or covert wars elsewhere.

For the last 10 years of the Cold War, the period of our heightened expenditures against a war marketed as a war against communism, we reportedly spent slightly under $3 trillion.

For a moment let’s forget about the exaggerated and sometimes dubious Soviet threats that were being sold to our nation during the Cold-War, and assume all of them legitimate and warranted. Okay?

We had the Soviet military with over 5 million men. We were dealing with Long-Range Ballistic Missile capabilities. We had an empire with a declared arsenal of 39,967 tons of chemical weapons. We were faced with massive nuclear arsenals and warheads, sophisticated fighter aircraft, tanks… All that, and of course the added fear propaganda and jazzed up other threats to go with it. My point here is not how scary an adversary the USSR was to the United States. Here is what I want you to do:

Take into perspective and compare the size, budget, militaristic and technological capabilities, and the vast power of our former adversary, the USSR, to the current alleged terrorist adversary, Al Qaeda, whom we have supposedly been fighting for ten years.

Gen. Casey: America may be in Iraq and Afghanistan for Another Decade

July 11, 2010

Wait a minute……What happened to only 100 Al Qaeda members in the region? Was the 50-100 years of war prediction by John McCain on the Presidential campaign trail accurate? Stop paying your taxes yesterday people!

source: CNN   July 11, 2010

The United States may still be in the Afghanistan and Iraq region for another ten years, according to Gen. George Casey.

“The types of conflict that we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, and I think are likely to be fighting here for a decade or so, are focused on the people,” Casey, the army’s Chief of Staff, said Friday night at the Aspen Institute’s Ideas Festival.

“We are not going to succeed in either place by military means alone. You are only going to succeed when the people perceive there is a government represented by their interests, when there is an economy that can give them a job to support their families, when there are educational systems that can educate their family. All those things are essential to the long term success of the military operation.”  Read the rest of this entry »
