Economists Who Invented Cap-And-Trade Say It Won’t Work for Global Warming

I have repeatedly argued that – no wonder what you think about climate change – carbon trading (a type of cap-and-trade scheme) is a scam.
Now, according to the Wall Street Journal, the economists who invented the entire cap-and-trade concept say it probably won’t work in regards to climate change.
Whatever you think about global warming, carbon trading is a scam which will only create a new profit-making machine and speculative bubble for Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and the rest of the boys who caused the financial crisis.

A new report today has identified the location of yet a third CIA secret prison provided by a European nation, a disclosure called “irresponsible” by the CIA, and denied by the alleged facility host, the former Soviet state of Lithuania. A third European country has been identified to ABC News as providing the CIA with facilities for a secret prison for high-value al Qaeda suspects: Lithuania, the former Soviet state. Former CIA officials directly involved or briefed on the highly classified program tell ABC News that Lithuanian officials provided the CIA with a building on the outskirts of Vilnius, the country’s capital, where as many as eight suspects were held for more than a year, until late 2005 when they were moved because of public disclosures about the program. National Geographic to air new “documentary”.

it doesn’t look like it will be very fair. For example, they say that “Eight years have passed and no stone has been left unturned in the painstaking process of piecing together what happened that fateful day”. In what alternate universe? This is just propaganda. Of course it’s what people think has happened and of course it should have happened, but didn’t as we all know. The writer doesn’t seem to be aware of the stone-walling by the Bush administration to even HAVE an inquiry, let alone any of the incriminating details intentionally left out of the official report. As a number of 911 truth luminaries like Richard Gage will be featured, it will be interesting to see if they are treated fairly. I’m not holding my breath.

The specter of private contractors carrying out assassinations on behalf of the US government has been raised in a New York Times article that says the CIA hired contractors from security firm Blackwater to help carry out its recently-revealed hit squad program.
The article, which appeared at the Times Wednesday night, says that in 2004, contractors from Blackwater “helped the spy agency with planning, training and surveillance” in the secret program that, according to media reports, never became fully functional.
The CIA hit squad, ostensibly meant to target al Qaeda’s leadership in the years after 9/11, became public news when CIA Director Leon Panetta informed congressional intelligence committees about it in late June. Since then, stories have appeared linking Vice President Dick Cheney to the decision to keep the hit squads secret — a decision that may violate the National Security Act, which mandates congressional oversight of the CIA.

Pimco: Dollar is Losing Reserve Status, Diversify Your Currency Holdings

Pimco portfolio manager Curtis A. Mewbourne writes that the dollar is losing its status as world reserve currency as the U.S. pumps massive amounts of money into the system. (I – and many others – have repeatedly written on this issue).
The dollar will probably depreciate the most against emerging market currencies. Pimco is advising clients to diversify out of the dollar.
Indeed, as Bloomberg points out:
Bill Gross, who runs the $169 billion Pimco Total Return Fund, is also warning the U.S. currency will fall.
Holders of dollars should diversify before central banks and sovereign wealth funds do the same because of concern government budget deficits will deepen, Gross said in June.

Sonoma County’s first-ever assessment drop

For the first time in the history of local tax records, the assessed value of property in Sonoma County has dropped, a 1.3 percent fall caused by recession-driven home prices that means $9 million less for county and city government services, schools and fire districts.
Tax revenues also fell for the first time because they are based on the assessed value of residential and commercial property, which was down $909 million from its historic high of $68.5 billion on Jan. 1, 2008.
County officials said the slump in housing prices has continued through the first six months of 2009, likely meaning the county’s assessed valuation could drift even lower by 2010. The figures are tallied on Jan. 1 of each year.
“More declines are coming, we have not hit bottom yet,” Rousseau said. “But we have hope that values come back soon.”

Afghan Media Told to be Silent on Violence for Elections, No Deal Says Media

KABUL – Afghan journalists charged Wednesday that their government was violating the constitution by demanding that reports of violence be censored on election day. They vowed to flout the order issued by an administration that appears increasingly hostile toward the media.
The Taliban have ramped up attacks ahead of Thursday’s vote and threatened to attack polling stations countrywide on Thursday.
Fearing that reports of violence could dampen turnout, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement Tuesday saying that news organizations should avoid “broadcasting any incidence of violence” between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on election day “to ensure the wide participation of the Afghan people.”
A separate statement from the Interior Ministry said journalists should stay away from the scene of any attacks until investigators have a chance to collect evidence.
Even before the ban went into effect, police beat back journalists arriving at the scene of an attack on a Kabul bank Wednesday. They threatened reporters with loaded guns pointed in their faces and hit others with batons and the butts of rifles, according to journalists from The Associated Press at the scene.

A Fort Bragg man and his former girlfriend were found shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide that left the small town on the Mendocino coast reeling Tuesday.
Jacob Gregory Swanson, 26, a former Army paratrooper who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, was haunted by his memories of combat and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, said his mother, Tracy Swanson.
But Swanson’s mother blames the post-traumatic stress disorder she said her son suffered as a result of serving under heavy combat conditions in both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Royal Navy Counter-Narcotics Mission Returns Home With 12 Kilo’s of Smuggled Cocaine, Arrests Made
August 18, 2009A ROYAL Navy sailor has been charged with allegedly smuggling 12 kilograms (26.4 lbs) of cocaine into the U.K.
Steward Teresa Matos, aged 36, an Angolan-born British citizen was arrested on August 1oth. The destroyer HMS Manchester, where she was stationed, was docked at Plymouth Sound for a couple of hours and boarded by police. Customs officials found the cocaine after allegedly searching her private belongings, and finding it “sewn into vests, and around rucksacks.”
I don’t know for sure if that is a regular thing, police and customs searching Royal Navy vessels. I would assume not.
The HMS Manchester, along with Matos, had been away from home for the last 7 months. The deployment included counter-narcotics operations in Columbia. So far Matos has been very silent, offering only a confirmation of her name to the courts, no plea has been entered. Matos joined the Navy in 2007 and has “unblemished record.”
There was a court-ordered Press silence on the issue for a week out of concerns for the investigation. Three other individuals have been arrested in the case so far. The silence has been lifted by the courts now.
The HMS Manchester set sail in late January to head to Cape Verde for counter-narcotics training with the Coast Guard. It then headed into South Georgia, the Falklands and Rio de Janerio before cruising into Columbia for even more counter-narcotics training.
Matos is scheduled to re-appear in court on September the 15th via video link from Eastwood Park prison.
Questions? Yes.
- Is it normal for police and customs to search Royal navy vessels returning from overseas?
- Who sewed 12 kilos (26.4 lbs.) of cocaine into her vests and rucksacks? Surely this could not have been done by herself on a Navy vessel or on foreign land.
- Was the one week court-ordered Press silence really out of concerns for the investigation, or perhaps the cover-up of something else?
- Where did 12 kilos (26.4 lbs) of cocaine come from in the first place when the people you are working with are involved in counter-narcotics specifically?
- Who are the three men that have so far been arrested in connection?
- Are these merely patsies for higher ranking officers, or a larger operation in whole?

Only a third of nurses willing to have swine flu vaccine: poll

Frontline health and social care workers will be among the first to be vaccinated in October along with people with serious underlying health problems and pregnant women.
However a survey by Nursing Times has found many frontline nurses have reservations.
Only one in three said they are prepared to have the H1N1 vaccine with a third undecided and the rest saying no.
Almost 1,500 nurses were polled, of whom 91 per cent said they were frontline.
It comes after news that parents are also concerned about the vaccine, with worries predominantly about the safety of its contents, side effects, and the amount of testing that will be done.
Of the nurses who said they would not get vaccinated, 60 per cent said concern about the safety of the vaccine was the main reason.
A further 31 per cent said they did not consider the risks to their health from swine flu to be great enough, while nine per cent thought they would not be able to take time out of work to get immunised.
“I would not be willing to put myself at risk of, as yet, unknown long-term effects to facilitate a short-term solution,” said one respondent.
A further respondent said: “I have yet to be convinced there is a genuine health risk (from swine flu) and it’s not just government propaganda.”

August 18, 2009President Obama reminded us today why so many people did not vote for him, or John McCain in 2008. Obama used the Presidential podium to promote the War of Terror that his predecessor Bush launched in 2001, after 9/11. Does Obama not know of the recently discovered high-grade explosives, known as thermite found in the dust from NYC on 9/11? Needless to say, Obama’s message now is a far cry from what most Americans thought they were voting for in 2006 when Democrats seized control of Congress, and again in 2008 when they won the Presidency. In his speech Obama points out…
- ”This is not a war of choice. This is a war of necessity, those who attacked America on 9/11 are plotting to do so again. “
- “This will not be quick nor easy.”
- “So this is not only a war worth fighting, this is fundamental to the defense of our people..”
- “The insurgency in Afghanistan didn’t just happen overnight, and we won’t defeat it overnight…
His speech was meant to build support for the 8 year old war, which polls show are dropping in popularity. Only 41 percent recently surveyed supported the Afghan war. This could be a reason why Barack Obama’s popularity in general has faded as well.
The war is not going to end anytime soon. Barack Obama has launched a surge in Afghanistan and Generals are already saying more will be neccesary, possibly reaching 70,000 troops before a year from now.
Unfortunately the People of the United States will have to speak louder to their Government officials.
